After observing the manner of his life, and the authority with which he addressed people and even demonic spirits, the disciples of Jesus concluded that what they were seeing was directly connected to his prayer life. When the opportuntity came, they used their access to him to put in a request, "Lord, teach us to pray." (Luke 11:2-4)

Have you ever felt like prayer was a challenge? Here are a few pointers that can help your prayer life.

First, begin by giving thanks. Many people spend a lot of time focused on what they don't have, and not enough time being thankful for what they do have. We all have a lot to be thankful for. Express your gratitude daily. Then take some time to give praise. God loves to be praised.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. (Psalm 100:4)

After you have spent some time giving thanks and praise, maybe you need a time of confession and repentance. We are called to obedience, and when we fall short, there is an abundance of grace and mercy available. Take some time to talk to your Father honestly. He won't be surprised by what you confess. He already knows. Confession is for our good, not His.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive, and cleanse us for all our sins.

(1 John 1:9)

Make your requests known. God is not burdened by our petitons. As a loving Father, He delights in meeting our needs. As you go through life's ups and downs, remember you can call for help from above.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)

Then, pray for others. Your prayers can make a difference in the lives of your family and friends. Forgive those who have wronged you. When you pray for God's will to be done in the lives of others, it will be done in yours.
